In a report by gameindustry.biz, Sony is to close RIGS and Killzone Mercenary developer Guerrilla Cambridge.
According to the report, Sony has confirmed the shut-down of the 19-year-old studio with all staff to be laid-off. Sony calls the closing “regrettable,” as the decision to close the studio stems from a review of all current PlayStation projects and resources.
“In order to deliver on our strategic objectives, it is necessary to make some changes to the European studios structure.”
Despite the closing of Guerrilla Cambridge, Sony stressed that Guerrilla Games Amsterdam, currently working on Horizon: Zero Dawn, will not be affected by the closure of it’s sister studio.
“Whilst we accept that this decision will mean that we risk losing high calibre staff, by focusing on other Studios with exciting new projects in development, (including continued work on PlayStation VR), we believe we will be in a stronger position going forward and able to offer the best possible content of the highest quality to our players.”
Previously known as SCEE Cambridge Studio, Guerrilla Cambridge was well known for the games MediEvil, Primal, Ghosthunter, Killzone Mercenary and the recently released RIGS: Mechanized Combat League.
