My First Time Playing Splatoon

Welcome everybody to a very special Pax East themed edition of My First Time Playing. If you are unsure about what’s going on here, please refer to our previous article for more information. Today we are going to talk about a game for the Wii U that could end up becoming a fun new IP for the system. Let’s take a moment now to find out what I’m talking about shall we?

The fifth title in our series is Splatoon for the Wii U. It’s a third person shooter that focuses more on teamwork than brute force in order to achieve victory. After waiting in line for an hour to get a chance to play, all I can is this is a chaotic, yet very fun experience that gamers of all ages can enjoy. Just be sure to clean up all of the paint when you’re done, because it’s going to get messy, really messy.

Here is how this whole thing works. Two teams of four players each start out on different sides of a map, and the objective is to cover it up with as much paint as possible that’s associated with the color of your team. Where things start to get interesting is when the stage starts to fill up with paint, because you can only move around in the areas that are the same color as yours. This adds a level of strategy to the proceedings because it can slow some players down, while it speeds others up, making traveling to complete the stage that much more challenging, but also rewarding. From the short amount of time I got to play this, all I can say it’s a very fun, and also a bit quirky, third person shooter that will without a doubt provide a large amount of entertainment to fans of unique experiences, and is definitely something you should consider checking out.

Well, that wraps up My First Time Playing Splatoon, and all I can is that it’s a great idea that has the potential to turn into a long running series on the Wii U. I guess the only question left to ask is will I play it again? Sure, but instead of using a gun, it might be a better idea for me to use a giant roller so you can cover more area.

If you have any other suggestions on games we could try out, feel free to let us know about them in the comments below.
