Halloween has always been one of our favorite times of the year. We get an excuse to watch Horror movies all month long, play horror games, and we even get some tasty treats throughout October. This year we thought that it would be neat to make a short list of some of our favorite Horror games.
Let’s get our notable mentions out of the way, only because we feel that these two titles deserve to be on everybody’s game library if horror survival games are your thing and you own a Wii U.
Resident Evil 4 will forever be a classic and one that can be played on your Wii U via the Wii game. We can’t express enough how good this game is and it really complements this particular time of year quite well. Our second notable title and one that a few of us still need to play is Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. This is one of the best Silent Hill games to date and it’s also considered by many as one of the most overlooked games on the Wii. Lucky for us the Wii U can play Wii games. We plan on featuring this game a bit more in a future post.
Ok let’s get started with the staff picks for this Halloween.
Resident Evil: Revelations (Wii U/3DS)
RE:R may be a horror game that has slipped under a lot of people’s radars. After the action-packed Resident Evil 5 failed to deliver in the horror department, the series needed to get back to its roots. While Revelations may not be the saving grace of the newer Resident Evil games, it was definitely a step in the right direction. From the beginning, the game has you filled with a sense of dread as you become trapped on a dark and deadly cruise boat inhabited by strange creatures. You play as Jill Valentine, a BSAA agent tasked with the mission of finding your old partner, Chris Redfield. As you progress through the game, you battle your way through nightmarish creatures who want nothing else but to see you dead. Resident Evil: Revelations is not a groundbreaking horror game by any means, but it remains as a very solid title for the Wii U and 3DS.

Zombi U (Wii U )
Zombi U is a memorable and terrifying experience with over 15 hours of gameplay. (give or take.) I don’t think I’ve ever played a game or watched a movie that gave me the chills or made me jump off my seat as often as this game did at the time. The environments will make you feel alone and vulnerable at all times. It’s the type of game that will make you consider putting down the controller and walk away, but not because the game is bad, but because the game is that dark and intense. I can’t stress enough on how important playing this game in the dark and with headsets is. You will thank me when you come across a nursery.
It’s quite ironic that during the game’s release in 2012 when the survival horror genre was being unaccounted — a true survival horror game was born exclusively to Nintendo who is usually known for their reputable family friendly systems. ZombiU is not a bloody shooter (like most classic survival games have turned into.) ZombiU is a real survival horror game that has awaken the genre with an unforgettable dark experience that scratches every possible horror-craving itch.

One of my all time favorite Horror games for Nintendo has got to be Resident Evil for the Nintendo GameCube or Resident Evil Archives: Resident Evil on the Wii and playable on your Wii U of course. The original Resident Evil is still one of my favorite games of all time, and the remastered version for the GameCube was an excellent port that added a few new things to the classic while at the same time keeping the same formula that made the original game so badass. Everything I loved and hated (in a good way) from the PlayStation version can be found in the GameCube version.
To this day I still haven’t found a game that terrified me more than the original Resident Evil. The cheap scares still surprise me and it is always a treat to play this whenever I get a chance. If you can find the GameCube version at a decent price, I would definitely pick it up. If not, the Wii version does a great job of porting the GameCube version to 480p.

Master Reboot is definitely one of the most unique horror titles out there. If you like sci-fi, this will be right up your alley as it’s set inside of a computer. Not only will it get your heart racing, but it will challenge you with some unique puzzles as well. It’s an amazing experience that you must try at least once, and it’s perfect for Halloween. Definitely pick it up right now as it’s on sale for half off. Check out our review for Master Reboot.

When I think of Halloween, the first thing that comes to mind are ghosts, so I’m going to pick Ghostbusters: The Video Game for the Nintendo Wii. The point and click controls are some of the best I have ever seen for the system. Combine that with a great sense of humor, and enough references to make a fanboys head spin, and you have the perfect game to play for this time of year. Whatever you do though, please remember one thing, don’t cross the streams, that would be bad. Now granted, this isn’t a traditional horror game by far, but it sure feels good to play it around this time of year.
